Volleyball Defeats Mt. Aloysius in Quad Match

WINCHESTER, Va. - Hood took a four-set decision from Mt. Aloysius during a quad match hosted by Shendandoah, but came up short against the Hornets and Lancaster Bible.

The victory over the Mounties gave first-year head coach Ellen Faaleolea her first career win.

The Blazers claimed the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-20 before Mt. Aloysius avoided the sweep with a 25-17 win in set three. Hood regrouped in set four to take the match with a 25-22 win.

In the second set, Hood hit .406 with 15 kills and just two errors in 32 total attacks. 

Kathryn Jones had her second match of 35-plus assists this year, dishing out a career-high 36. The total ties for the fourth-best single match total in school history. Jones also led the team with 17 digs to complete her double-double.

Rebecca Rieser led the team with 10 kills and hit .444 for the match. She also had two block assists. Amy Hagerdon matched Reiser with a team-high 11 points. The senior had eight kills and three aces. She had 15 digs, as well, while Morgan Huffer added 11. Brenna Elizondo served up a team-high four aces.

Ashley Pipon led all players with 13 kills for the Mounties.

Earlier in the day, Hood took set three to avoid the sweep against Shenandoah, but the Hornets won in four sets. 

The Blazers hit .435 in the first set despite falling 25-16. After falling 26-24 in the second set, Hood notched a 25-21 win to make the match score 2-1. The Blazers pushed Shenandoah to the limit, but the Hornets claimed a 25-23 win in the fourth set to take the match.

Hayley Rogers had 17 points for Hood, while Hagerdon added 16. Rogers had 12 kills, hit .290, and had five total blocks, including three solos. Hagerdon notched a double-double with 14 kills and 18 digs. 

Elizondo made her first start at setter and passed out 32 assists to go along with 12 digs for the double-double. Addie Roop added 13 digs and matched Hagerdon's two service aces. 

Hood closed its afternoon with a 3-2 loss to Lancaster Bible. The Blazers won the first two sets 25-16 and 25-14, but the Chargers rebounded with wins of 25-22 and 25-13 to push the match to a fifth set. LBC snuck past Hood to take the match with a 15-11 win.
