Blazers Can't Stop Mustangs

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Hood College fell on the road in Commonwealth Conference play at Stevenson, 61-42.

Rachel Kessler (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) was the lone Blazer in double figures with 10 points. The sophomore also had four rebounds and a team-high four steals. 

Brittney George (Middletown, Md. ./ Middletown) and Rachel Wiley (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) teamed to lead Hood (5-13, 2-9) on the backboards. George hauled in nine rebounds, with Wiley grabbing eight. Wiley, a junior, blocked three shots.

The Blazers trailed by just five, 15-10, after a jumper by George, but the Mustangs closed the half with a 19-6 run to take a 34-16 lead into the intermission.

In the second half, Stevenson (10-8, 8-3) led 60-36 with 1:52 to play before the Blazers closed the game with a 6-1 spurt.

The Blazers outrebounded the Mustangs 39-37, but were undone by 33 turnovers in the game.

Ty Bender scored a game-high 14 points and matched Caitlin Roy with six steals. Kayla Kelly added 10 points and Roy grabbed eight rebounds.

Hood stays on the road for trip to Arcadia on February 1 at 1 p.m.
