Box Score 2 TOWSON, Md. - Hood College outlasted Goucher in five sets and swept Rosemont in a tri-match hosted by the Gophers.
The two wins lift the Blazers' total to nine for the year, their most since 2011.
Between the two matches, Kari Betson (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) had 22 kills, four aces, 16 digs and five blocks.
HOOD 3, GOUCHER 2 (15-25, 25-21, 20-25, 29-27, 16-14)
Betson and Hayley Rogers (Sandwich, Ill. / Brunswick (Md.)) had 13 kills apiece as Hood came from down 2-1 to take the match in five sets.
Rogers added her fourth match of the season with six blocks, while Betson and Ashley Park-Brouse (Myersville, Md. / Middletown) added five each. The Blazers finished with 22 blocks as a team, third highest single match total in school history.
After taking a 2-1 lead, the Gophers led 17-13 in the fourth set before one of Addie Roop's (New Windsor, Md. / Francis Scott Key) nine kills swung the momentum back to the Blazers. Kills by Rogers, Betson and Elizabeth Hawkesworth (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill), and an ace by Roop followed in a 6-0 run that built a 19-17 Hood lead. Goucher battled back and held leads of 25-24 and 26-25 before the teams sat tied at 27-27. A pair of attack errors by the Gophers gave Hood the 29-27 win to force a fifth set.
In the fifth set, a kill by Hawkesworth put the Blazers on top 13-11, but back-to-back kills by Hannah Kuehl tied the score. After Rogers' final kill of the match gave Hood match point, Brenna Elizondo (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage) notched a kill to seal the win.
Elizondo finished with 36 assists and 16 digs in the match for her fourth double-double of the year. She became just the eighth player in school history to top 500 career assists.
Roop had three of Hood's 10 service aces and added 15 digs. Keesha Fields (Willow Hill, Pa. / Fannett-Metal) led the team with 17 digs and Gabriela Enriquez (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) had 10. Fields went of the 500 career dig mark in the win.
For Goucher, Kuehl matched Rogers and Betson for match-high honors with 13 kills. She also had five blocks. Sarah Johnson tallied 34 assists.
HOOD 3, ROSEMONT 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-12)
The Blazers hit a season-high .209 to make short work of Rosemont in three sets for their second win of the day.
Betson turned in a another solid performance with nine kills and eight digs. Roop had a solid all-around effort with six kills, five aces, eight digs and two blocks. Rogers recorded three blocks. Kathryn Jones (Newfane, N.Y. / Newfane) led the team with 14 assists, while Elizondo chipped in with 10.
Hood took contol of the match early, as Betson had three kills during a match-opening 13-4 run.
In the second set, the Ravens jumped out to an early 7-3 lead before Roop brought the Blazers back. After the senior broke Rosemont's serve with a kill, she served up three consecutive aces to tie the set at 7-7. From there, the two teams battled back and forth before a pair of attack errors by Hood brought the Ravens within 18-17. Park-Brouse sparked an 8-0 run to end the set with a pair of kills.
The Blazers scored the first five points of set three and never looked back to take the match.
Leilani Carter had five kills for Rosemont and Lexy Mrongowius had 13 assists.
Rogers finished the afternoon with 47 block assists, the second most in a season in school history. She also moved into 10th all-time at Hood with 366 career kills.
Hood hosts Lebanon Valley on October 14.
