ASTON, Pa. - The Hood College field hockey team dropped a non-conference contest at Neumann by a final score of 5-0.

The Blazers fell behind in the third minute when Jordan Hopkins scored what proved to be the game-winner for the Knights. During the fourth minute, the Hood defense halted another advance by Neumann. Jessica Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) turned away the initial shot and Emily Richardson (Sykesville, Md. / Century) backed her keeper up with a defensive save off the rebound.

A goal by Lindsey Spatola stretched Hood's deficit to two goals during the 25th minute. The Blazers had a pair of shots off of corners before the intermission, but were unable to score. Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) took both corners and Tayler Piper (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) shot from the top of the circle in the 29th and 35th minutes, but both strikes sailed wide of the mark. 

Hopkins scored again just after play resumed for a 3-0 Knight lead. Hood's Shay Braithwaite (Montgomery Village, Md. / Watkins Mill) put a shot on cage just over a minute after play resumed, but Summer Skivas made the save. Scores by Alexa Damask and Kenya Woods in the 59th and 60th minutes put the match out of reach. 

Richardson added another defensive save in the 59th minute to finish with two on the evening. The junior now has four defensive stops on the year and 26 in her career, the the fourth most among active Division III players. Her career total ranks fourth all-time at Hood. 

Sedgwick made 10 saves in goal for the Blazers, her second straight game with as many stops.

Hood heads to Albright on Saturday, October 18 for a 1 p.m. start.
