Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College took the first set against Stevenson, but ultimately fell to both the Mustangs and Lycoming in a tri-match with the Commonwealth Conference rivals.
Between the two matches, Hayley Rogers (Sandwich, Ill. / Brunswick (Md.)) had 17 kills and seven blocks. She moved into sole possession of third place on Hood's all-time blocks list with 160 in her career.
STEVENSON 3, HOOD 1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-15, 25-14)
The Blazers held on to win the first set, 25-23 over first place Stevenson, but the Mustangs regrouped to take the match in four sets.
Hood trailed in the first set, 10-6, before a kill by Addie Roop (New Windsor, Md. / Francis Scott Key) started a 9-1 run for the Blazers. A kill by setter Kathryn Jones (Newfane, N.Y. / Newfane) put Hood on top 15-11. An Ashley Park-Brouse (Myersville, Md. / Middletown) kill and an attack error by Stevenson later in the set gave the Blazers their biggest lead at 20-15. Stevenson battled back to cut Hood's lead to 24-23 before another Roop kill gave the Blazers a 1-0 lead.
In the second set, Hood trailed just 8-5 before a 6-0 run by Stevenson put the set out of reach and evened the match at 1-1. Set three was close in the early going as the Mustangs held a slim 12-10 lead before pulling away.
Rogers and Park-Brouse had seven kills apiece to lead Hood. Rogers added five blocks, including three solos. Jones dished out 26 assists. Keesha Fields (Willow Hill, Pa. / Fannett Metal) led Hood with 13 digs.
Kristen Brooks led all players with 13 kills for Stevenson. Karin Schleimer had 42 assists and Samantha Perillo notched 19 digs. Kelly McKenzie added seven kills and four blocks in just three sets of work.
LYCOMING 3, HOOD 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-19)
Rogers had 10 kills, but it was not enough as Lycoming took the match in straight sets.
Hood held early leads in all three sets before the Warriors battled back. A Lycoming attack error gave the Blazers a 7-6 lead in the first set before a 5-0 run put the Warriors in command. Hood jumped ahead 15-11 during set two, but Lycoming began to chip away at the lead. Twice the Warriors pulled within a single point before, but kills by Rogers broke their momentum. But Lycoming eventually broke through, scoring the final five points of the set. Back-to-back service aces by Jones gave the Blazers a 5-1 advantage in set three. Lycoming then went on a 9-3 run to take the lead for good.
Betson added eight kills for Hood. Park-Brouse chipped in with four blocks. Jones came off the bench for 15 assists and three aces. Fields had 21 digs to match a career-high.
Lauren Fink had 15 kills for the Warriors and Bethany Richardson added 10. Catherine Burger delivered 30 assists.
Hood travels to Shenandoah on October 21 at 7 p.m.
