Box Score WINCHESTER, Va. - Hood College dropped a non-conference match up with regional rival Shenandoah in three sets, 25-16, 25-20 and 25-15.
The Hornets, who hit .306 in the match, controlled the first set, but the Blazers rebounded with a strong start in set two. A kill by Elizabeth Hawkesworth (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) gave Hood a 7-5 lead before Shenandoah rattled off seven straight points to take the lead. Hood pulled within three points on four occasions over the rest of the set, but could not get closer. The Hornets never trailed in the third set to seal the match.
Hawkesworth tallied nine kills to lead the Blazers. Kari Betson (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) had a solid all-around effort. The freshman had five kills without an error on 17 attacks, eight digs and three blocks. Ashley Park-Brouse (Myersville, Md. / Middletown) led the team with four blocks. Keesha Fields (Willow Hill, Pa. / Fannett-Metal) added 11 digs. Brenna Elizondo (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage) dished out 13 assists and Addie Roop (New Windsor, Md. / Francis Scott Key) served three aces.
Kathryn Jones (Newfane, N.Y. / Newfane) became just the third player in school history to reach 800 career assists, ending the evening with 802.
Allie Peiper had 10 kills and three blocks for Shenandoah. Rachel Roberts chipped in with seven kills and four blocks. Rachel Cerratani led the team with 20 assists and Rachel Gross netted four aces.
Hood will look to get back in the win column against Lancaster Bible at BB&T Arena on October 23 at 7 p.m.
