Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College dropped a five set thriller to visiting Lancaster Bible College, 29-27, 23-25, 19-25, 25-17 and 15-5.
The Blazers tallied 103 digs on the night, the most since 2010 and the sixth most in school history.
Senior Hayley Rogers (Sandwich, Ill. / Brunswick (Md.)) finished with 16 kills and eight blocks and reached several milestones in the match. Her 16 kills tied a career-high and gave her 403 in her career, making her just the 10th player in school history to reach the 400 mark. No Blazer has had more than eight blocks in a match since 2006.
Hood's 14 blocks in the match has not been surpassed by a Blazer squad since 2005.
Keesha Fields (Willow Hill, Pa. / Fannett-Metal) had 28 digs, the most by a Hood player this season. Her 293 for the year are the most for a Blazer since 2009.
Kari Betson (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) notched her first career double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. She also had four blocks. Elizabeth Hawkesworth (Westminster, Md. / Winters Mill) added 11 kills and three blocks. Ashley Park-Brouse (Myersville, Md. / Middletown) recorded six blocks, including two solos, and added nine kills. Allie Donoghue (Owings, Md. / Bishop McNamara) more than doubled her previous career-best with 21 digs. Addie Roop (New Windsor, Md. / Francis Scott Key) chipped in with 18 digs.
Brenna Elizondo (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage) and Kathryn Jones (Newfane, N.Y. / Newfane) split the setting duties. Elizondo finished with a team-high 25, while Jones added 20.
Hood led 27-26 in set one after a kill by Roop, but the Chargers scored the final three points to take the set. Lancaster Bible erased a seven-point deficit in the second set to take a 23-22 lead. But, after a kill by Park-Brouse and an LBC attack error, Betson tallied a kill to tie the match at 1-1.
The score was tied at 16-16 in the third set, but a service error by the Chargers was followed by kills by Roop, Jones and Rogers, and an ace by Donoghue. In all, Hood scored six straight points and went on to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the fourth set, Hood trailed by as many as six early, but the Blazers pulled within two twice after kills by Betson, 16-14 and 17-15. A kill by Joanna Butala halted Hood's run as Lancaster Bible forced a fifth set.
The Chargers caught fire in set five, hitting .500 with 10 kills and one error on 18 attacks, to take the match.
Hood will look to get back in the win column when Trinity Washington visits on October 27 at 7 p.m. for Senior Day.
