Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Despite an early goal by Jill Heymann (Hackettstown, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional), Hood College dropped its Commonwealth Conference opener to visiting Albright, 2-1.
Heymann gave the Blazers the lead midway through the eighth minute. Alyssa Nubgaard (Poolesville, Md. / Poolesville) sent a through ball from near midfield that found its way to a sprinting Heymann ahead of the defense. The sophomore ended up one-on-one with the goalkeeper and fired a shot into the left side for a 1-0 lead. The score ran Heymann's goal scoring streak to three straight matches.
After the Blazers took the lead, the rest of the half was a battle in the midfield with the defenses controlling the action. The teams went into halftime with Hood on top 1-0 and the sides combining for just four total shots.
Albright tied the game in the 54th minute, when Natalie Wilson finished after an initial shot by Suzanne Kuhrman. Kuhrman later scored the game-winner at the beginning of the 62nd minute. Albright misplayed a ball near the top of the box, but Kuhrman was in the right place at the right time and was able to field the ball and get off a shot for the game-winner.
Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) made six saves for the Blazers.
Heymann's first half goal was her sixth marker of the season, of which five have been scored in the first eight minutes of the match. With the assist, Nubgaard now has six for the year, tied for the fifth best season in Blazer history. She has also scored a point in five straight matches.
Both streaks are the most since Carlie Colella achieved equal streaks during the 2008 season.
Hood will look to rebound on October 7 at Stevenson.
