READING, Pa. - Hood College fell 1-0 to Alvernia University in a Commonwealth Conference match to round out the 2014 season.

The two teams had a defensive battle through the first half, only posting a combined six shots during a scoreless period.

The Crusaders notched the lone goal of the afternoon in the 57th minute when Kristen Eckert redirected a shot by Amber Scott.

Brittney George (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) had a shot late in the half, but Alvernia's goalkeeper made the save to clinch the win.

Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) stopped six shots. Jessica Plunkett had three saves for the Crusaders.

The offenses opened up in the second half, with nine shots between the two squads. For the afternoon, Alvernia held a 10-5 shooting advantage.
