COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Hood College's Samantha Bailey (Shelton, Conn. / Shelton) started her collegiate career with a fourth place finish in the shot put at the Bow Tie Classic at Ursinus College.
Bailey threw the shot 36-7 1/2 (11.16 meters) to take fourth in a field of 37.
Andrea Christmas (Germantown, Md. / Northwest) threw 25-2 (7.67m) in the shot put, a new personal best by two and a half feet, placing 28th.
Heather Silveira (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) missed the finals by just one-thousandth of a second in the 60-meter hurdles with her time of 10.164, good for seventh place. Jackie Mangogna (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) was one place back in 10.50, and also took ninth in the long jump with a leap of 15-1 1/4 (4.60m).
Alexandra Dystant (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) ran a time of 19:59.19 in the 5000-meter run, placing eighth out of 29 runners.
Jayda Blount (Waldorf, Md. / McDonough), Christmas, Mangogna, and Silveira placed eighth in the 4x200 relay, running a time of 1:56.47.
The team placed 18th overall at the meet out of 30 teams. Johns Hopkins claimed first place with 137 points, the only team in triple digits.
The Blazers compete at the Hagerstown Invitational on December 13.
