Hood Drops Final Regular Season Game to Lycoming

Box Score

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Hood College men's basketball fell at Lycoming as the Warriors hit 50 percent from 3-point range in a 72-60 loss for the Blazers.

Hood (16-9, 10-8) entered the game knowing it had the fourth seed in the Commonwealth Conference tournament and a first round home game in the playoffs on Monday, February 24 at 7 p.m. The only thing left to be determined was who the Blazers would play.

Lycoming (13-11, 9-9), meanwhile, needed a win to help keep its playoff hopes alive. The Warriors entered the day tied for the fifth and final playoff slot with Albright.

Despite the win by Lycoming, a 73-64 victory by the Lions over Elizabethtown, and a Messiah loss to Alvernia gave Albright the tie breaker.

The Lions will visit BB&T Arena for the second time this season. Hood emerged from the first matchup with a 61-60 victory in January.

Against Lycoming, Davon Hill (Clinton, Md. / Potomac School) finished with 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead the Blazers in all three categories.

Rob Pillow and Patrick Dougher, meanwhile, led a perimeter attack for Lycoming that hit 11-of-22 threes in the game. Pillow hit 4-of-8 long range attempts off the bench on his way to a game-high 18 points. Dougher added a 4-of-7 effort from three and ended his day with 13 points.

Michael Rudy had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Hood's bench did it's best to keep the Blazers close. Including Hill, the reserves combined for 30 points and hit 7-of-16 3-point field goals in the game.

The Warriors opened the game with 34-11 run over the first 17 minutes of action that proved too much for Hood to overcome. Trevor Magnuski (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) hit a three to end the run and start a 13-3 Blazer run down the stretch. Cameron Cook (Baltimore, Md. / Calvert Hall) scored eight straight points during the run as the Blazers pulled to within 37-24 with 57 seconds left on a jumper by Hill. But a three by Pillow at the half stretched the lead back to 16 at the break, 40-24.

Hood's deficit was as many as 22 in the second half, but the Blazers closed the game with a 10-2 run over the final three minutes.

Hood took care of the basketball, committing just 13 turnovers, but a 30 percent team mark from the floor was the team's undoing.
