Box Score 2 ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Hood College softball team wrapped up play at the Triangle Classic, falling to North Carolina Wesleyan 12-2 and Wilson 6-3.
In the day's first game, the Blazers trailed just 3-2 before the Battling Bishops offense put the game out of reach in the fifth and sixth innings to end the game early.
Hood scored both its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jackie Wenzel (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven), Amy Hagerdon (Berryville, Va. / Clarke County) and Carly Farr (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) had consecutive singles to lead off the inning, with Wenzel coming home on Farr's hit. With one out, Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) had a base hit to center that drove in Hagerdon to cut the deficit to 3-2.
North Carolina Wesleyan had jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings before the Blazers chipped away in the fourth. But after a three-run fifth gave the Battling Bishops some breathing room, a six-run sixth proved too much to overcome.
In addition to Hood's fourth inning offense, Cady Baer (Frederick, Md. / Catoctin) had a single in the fifth after Laura Lokey (Millville, N.J. / Millville) drew a walk, but the Blazers stranded the two base runners.
Kristin Ganderton (Maple Glen, Pa. / Upper Dublin) started and went 4.1 innings in her debut, taking the loss. Jennifer Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa. / Phoenixville) pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief.
Paige Pritchett doubled twice and drove in four runs for the Battling Bishops. Leanna Fann pitched a complete game to pick up the win, scattering five hits and a walk.
