Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Hood College softball team opened its trip to the Dot Richardson Spring Games with a 7-2 win over Lesley and an 8-4 victory against Northwestern (Minn.).
Amy Hagerdon (Berryville, Va. / Clarke County) had five hits, homered, and drove in five runs in the two wins.
The victories improved Hood to 3-3, while Lesley dropped to 0-3 and Northwestern fell to 1-6.
Hood 7, Lesley 2
The Blazers opened the day with the victory over Lesley, fueled by a three-run third inning. Hannah Kirk (Frederick, Md. / Governor Thomas Johnson) and Hagerdon led off with infield singles before Carly Farr's (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) double brought Kirk home. Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) followed with a sacrifice fly to score Hagerdon for a 2-0 lead. Katie Jenkins (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) drove in Farr with a two-out single to make it a three-run lead.
After Maria Nazzaro drove in a run for the Lynx in the bottom of the inning, Hood tacked on two more runs to go ahead 5-1 in the fourth. Kirk singled to left before Farr and Fourcade drew consecutive two-out walks to load the bases. Both Farr and Kirk later scored on an error.
A run-scoring single by Laura Lokey (Millville, N.J. / Millville) that drove home Hagerdon in the sixth put the Blazers ahead 6-1. Nicole Mercurio, who had scored Lesley's first run of the morning, knocked home the second run for the Lynx to make it a 6-2 game heading into the seventh.
Hagerdon ripped a two-out single to left to drive in Jackie Wenzel (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) to stretch the lead back to five.
Hagerdon was 3-for-5 in the game, scored twice, and drove in a run. Jenkins and Kirk had two hits apiece, including a triple by Jenkins. Farr doubled and scored two runs. Fourcade had a pair of sacrifice flies.
Keerstie Robinson (Windsor, Pa. / Northeastern) picked up her first win of the year after scattering two runs on five hits. She struck out three.
Mercurio started and took the loss for Lesley, walking seven and allowing five runs in four innings. At the plate, she had two hits.
Hood 8, Northwestern (Minn.) 4
Hagerdon hit a three-run homer and later drove in another run as Hood doubled up Northwestern 8-4.
The Eagles struck first with a single run in the first inning before the Blazers tied it up in the fourth. Farr stroked a dobule with one out, then came home on an RBI base hit by Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy).
In the fifth, Hagerdon hit the three-run blast that scored Lokey and Melissa Canulli (Hummelstown, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) to put Hood ahead 4-1.
The Blazers broke the game open in the sixth with four runs. Jenkins singled and a walk by Lokey put two on with two outs. Cady Baer (Frederick, Md. / Catoctin) drove in a run with a single and Kirk had a two-run base hit to make it 7-4. Hagerdon finished the scoring with an RBI single to score Kirk.
Northwestern rallied in the seventh with three runs, including a two-run double by Colleen Feldheim, before Hood closed the door.
Hagerdon was 2-for-4 with two run scored, a homer, and four RBIs. Farr also had two hits, Lokey scored twice, and Kirk knocked in two.
Jennifer Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa. / Phoenixville Area) threw a complete game for Hood for her second win of the year. She allowed four runs on 11 hits and walked three, while striking out four.
Kelsey Stoltman had three hits for the Eagles, while Megan Threlkeld added a pair of hits.
Ann Lokke took the loss after giving up eight runs in six innings.
Hood continues action at the Dot Richardson Spring Games with a 9 a.m. tilt with Juniata, before taking on Richard Stockton at 1 p.m.
