Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College homered four times in the first game and twice in the second game during a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader split with Stevenson.
The Blazers won game one 6-5 in eight innings, but the Mustangs bounced back for a 7-6 win in game two.
Katie Jenkins (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) homered in both games, her first two long balls of the year. Amy Hagerdon (Berryville, Va. / Clarke County) extended her hitting streak to 12 games.
Hood 6, Stevenson 5 (8 innings)
Jenkins and Laura Lokey (Millville, N.J. / Millville) hit solo home runs in the eighth inning to lead the Blazers to the 6-5 win in extra innings.
Hood took an early 1-0 lead when Hagerdon led off the game with a single and later scored on an RBI ground out by Jenkins.
The Mustangs scored once in the bottom of the first and three times in the second to take a 4-1 lead. Kaitlyn Seger had the big hit in the second with a two-run single.
The Blazers' power surge started in the third when Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) clubbed her first home run of the season to pull Hood within 4-2.
Carly Farr (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) smashed a two-run shot in the top of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Hagerdon, who walked earlier in the inning, scored on the homer.
After Jenkins and Lokey went deep in the eighth, the Mustangs got three straight singles in the bottom half to pull within one before Keerstie Robinson (Windsor, Pa. / Northeastern) forced a pair of ground balls to finish the game.
Three Hood hitters had two-hit games. Farr and Fourcade each went 2-for-4 with a homer, while Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) ripped a pair of hits, as well. Hagerdon and Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) both had a hit and a walk.
Robinson went the distance for the win inside the circle. She allowed four earned runs on nine hits and two walks.
Molly Hoyt threw a complete game in the losing effort, allowing six runs on 10 hits and two walks.
Stevenson 7, Hood 6
Hood tried to pull off another comeback scoring three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh before falling 7-6.
Trailing 7-1 in the sixth, Farr and Fourcade singled to lead off the inning and Jenkins hit a three-run bomb to straightaway center to make the score 7-4.
In the seventh, Melissa Canulli (Hummelstown, Pa. / Central Dauphin) walked and Farr doubled into the gap in right center to put two on with two outs. Fourcade ripped a long single to drive in two runs and bring the winning run to the plate. Sedgwick followed and hit a hard liner to right field, but Briana Dieter, who made several spectacular catches in the doubleheader, came forward to make a diving catch to end the game.
Earlier in the contest, Tiffany Kahl hit a two-run home run in the first, and Abbey DeFeo had a two-run shot of her own during a five-run second as the Mustangs went ahead 7-0.
Hagerdon hit her second home run of the year in the third for the Blazers' first run.
Fourcade went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs. Farr went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Jennifer Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa. / Phoenixville) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in two innings on four hits and three walks. Kristin Ganderton (Maple Glen, Pa. / Upper Dublin) was strong in relief, limiting Stevenson to just three base runners in four innings. Both pitchers struck out one batter.
Briana Pichalski tossed a complete game for the win, giving up seven hits and walking two.
Hood hosts Trinity (D.C.) on Monday, March 24 for a non-conference doubleheader.
