Box Score 2 CHESTER, Pa. - Hood College dropped both ends of a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader, falling at Widener 9-4 and 5-1.
Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) homered in game one to give her nine for her career, just one short of the school record of 10 by Melanie Muscar from 2003 to 2004.
Widener 9, Hood 4
The Pride scored five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to break a 4-4 tie.
The Blazers struck first with back-to-back doubles by Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) and Cady Baer (Frederick, Md. / Catoctin) in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
One run in the bottom of the first and three more in the second put Widener ahead before Fourcade clubbed a two-run homer in the top of the fifth to tie the game.
Carly Farr (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) had two hits and scored twice for the Blazers.
Angela Hood went 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Bree Vanreenen had three hits and drove in two, including the game-winning run in the fifth. Alie Alkins drove in three runs.
Keerstie Robinson (Windsor, Pa. / Northeastern) threw a complete game, but took the loss. She allowed five earned runs on 13 hits and struck out two.
Ally Horvath tossed a complete game for the win, allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks.
Widener 5, Hood 1
The Pride hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning to put the game away.
Widener scored twice in the first, but Fourcade answered with an RBI double in the third to cut the lead in half.
In the fifth, Angela Hood, Heather Forward, and Alkins hit consecutive solo shots to make it a 5-1 game.
Farr had two more hits in the nightcap to lead Hood. Amy Hagerdon (Berryville, Va. / Clarke County) walked three times.
Alkins and Taylor Church had two hits apiece for the Pride.
Jennifer Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa. / Phoenixville) took the loss. She threw a complete game and allowed five runs on eight hits and two walks.
Alexis Schengrund threw the first three innings before giving way to Devin Coyne, who picked up the win with four innings of shutout relief. Schengrund scattered two hits and two walks, while strikiing out five. Coyne allowed two hits and walked three batters.
Hood hosts Messiah on April 19 for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
