READING, Pa. - The Hood College softball team got swept today by Albright College in Commonwealth Conference action, 11-4 and 13-5. 

The wins improved the Lions to 5-12 overall, while the Blazers dropped to 13-7. 

Albright 11, Hood 4

Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) hit a grand slam to tie the score at 4-4 in the third inning, but Albright scored 11 runs over its final three at bats to take the win in the opener.

The hosts started out the gate fast, scoring four times in the bottom of the first. Natalie Carlucci and Marguerite DeLucas both had RBI doubles in the frame. DeLucas' hit brought in the final two runs, both unearned. 

The Blazers were held off the scoreboard until the third inning when Fourcade knotted up the score with one swing of the bat. Melissa Canulli (Hummelstown, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) started off the inning with a single and advanced to second after Cady Baer (Frederick, Md. / Catoctin) singled. Jackie Wenzel (Wallingford, Pa. / Strath Haven) hit a third single to load the bases, but Amy Hagerdon (Berryville, Va. / Clarke County) grounded into a double play. Carly Farr (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) then walked to set up Fourcade's grand slam. 

The Hood offense was shut down the rest of the way and Albright scored four times in the fourth inning and three times in the sixth. 

Baer had two hits for Hood and Fourcade drove in four runs.

Jalene Garcia had a three-hit game. Marguerite DeLucas doubled twice and Nicole Bartron had a pair of hits.

Katie Civitello scattered six hits around seven innings for the win. She struck out four and walked only two. 

Keerstie Robinson allowed 11 hits and had three strikeouts in the loss. 

Albright 13, Hood 5 (6 innings)

In game two the Blazers got on the scoreboard first, scoring five runs before the hosts had an at bat. With one out, Farr and Fourcade started a string of five straight singles to get the rally underway. Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) drove in Farr on her single, and Katie Jenkins (Duncannon, Pa. / Susquenita) followed to score Fourcade. Roo Saglimbeni's (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) single drove in two runs as Sedwick and Jenkins both touched home. Canulli drew a walk to end the hit parade, but Baer hit another single to score Saglimbeni.

The Lions struck back with three in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 5-3. With the bases loaded DeLucas walked to bring in Civitello. Jackie Bohanon doubled to score Amanda Toto and Carlucci.

Albright tied the game up in the third inning with Toto hitting a RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Jackie Bohanan. The hosts took the lead in the fourth on a RBI single from Civetello to open up a five-run inning. The Lions scored three more times in the sixth inning to cap off the sweep.

Civetello earned her second win of the day with eight strikeouts over six innings. Jennifer Rutherford (Phoenixville, Pa. / Phoenixville Area) got handed the loss, giving up 10 runs in 3 2/3 innings. 

Sedgwick and Saglimbeni notched two-hit games for Hood. 

Jackie Bohanon had a monster game at the plate with three hits, two doubles, and seven RBIs. Natalie Carlucci went 4-for-4, and she and Amanda Toto each scored four runs.

Hood will have a quick turnaround as the Blazers take on Lycoming tomorrow afternoon, with the first pitch at 1 p.m.

Notes: Hagerdon moved into a tie for fourth all-time at Hood with 78 runs scored. Fourcade's homer was the seventh of her career, also tied for fourth.
