FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Field Hockey team had its first shutout since 2012 against Notre Dame (Md.) with a 3-0 win in today's home opener.

Hood jumped to a quick 2-0 lead when Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the game. Her first goal came after a penalty corner, and a shot from Laura Lokey (Millville, N.J. / Millville).  Briscoe got the rebound to get the goal at 3:57.  Shortly after, she scored her second goal at 7:16, when she dribbled around a defender on the left side and took the shot.  

Rachel Marlow (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) notched the third and final goal from a rebound in the second half of the game, with less than five minutes remaining.  Hood (1-0) outshot Notre Dame (Md.) 23-13.  

Jessica Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) had her first career shutout with six saves.  The Gators' goalie, Arianna Hudson, had four saves.  

The Blazers are home again for a game against Bay Path College on August 31.
