Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College fell short in a defensive batte, 2-1 against Roanoke College.
Neither team had a shot in the opening 11 minutes as the two sides struggled to take control during a scoreless first half. Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) had the Blazers' first defensive save of the season in the 30th minute. Laura Lokey (Millville, N.J. / Millville) also kept Roanoke from a possible goal at the end of the half, when she broke up a 2-on-1 in the 34th minute at the top of the circle.
Hood started strong in the second half with an early goal by Alexis Briscoe (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach). She dribbled up the left side of the field, cut to the middle, and hit a hard shot from the top of the circle for the goal.
The Maroons were awarded a penatly stroke in the 55th minute and Shelbi Holloman tied the score, 1-1.
In the final three minutes, Roanoke scored the winning goal, when Kellie Jasinski flicked the ball through the center and Katerina DeSimone poked it through a crowd in front of the cage for the game-winner.
Jessica Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) had one save. The Maroons' Candice Fisher had three saves. Lauren Hurley and Kelly Wood had defensive saves for Roanoke.
The Blazers are back in action against Goucher on September 17.
