Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College scored late in the first minute and made it stand in a 1-0 non-conference victory over visiting Penn St.-Harrisburg.
Just 54 seconds into the contest, Alyssa Nubgaard (Poolesville, Md. / Poolesville) got in front of the defense, then centered the ball to Jill Heymann (Hackettstown, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional). The sophomore did not even need to break stride and boomed the ball into the net for her fourth goal of the year. Nubgaard's assist was her fifth of the season, tied for the seventh best season in school history.
In the 23rd minute, Hood had a chance to stretch the lead when Jessie Herbert (Sykesville, Md. / Century) sent a through ball to Nubgaard, but the Lions were able to clear the ball just before the shot.
Early in the second half, Harrisburg had one of its best chances to tie the score. Rachel Shetler battled her way through several defenders with the ball and uncorked a shot, but the ball was deflected by the Blazer defense.
Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) picked up her first career shutout, making two saves. Hood shut out Notre Dame (Md.) earlier this year, but both Andrukat and Leah Norris (Bryans Road, Md. / Lackey) saw time in net.
Penn St.-Harrisburg outshot Hood 8-6, but only two found their way on the net as the Blazer defense limited the Lions' clean chances.
McKenzie Gates stopped a pair of shots for Penn St.-Harrisburg.
The win was the Blazers' third of year, already matching their total from last season.
Hood will look to make it two in a row with a match at Gallaudet on October 1 at 7:30 p.m.
