Hood Falls to Catholic in a 2-1 Overtime

Washington, D.C. - Hood College dropped a hard-fought match 2-1 in overtime at Catholic University.

Hood captured the lead in first half when Jessie Herbert (Sykesville, Md. / Century) deposited a kick from 22 yards out, around the left side of the wall and into the top corner early in the 23rd minute.

Hood's defense held firm for most of the evening. Alexis Andrukat (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) made a career-high 13 saves, while field players chipped in three more.  Catholic's goalkeeper, Lexi Halperin, faced only one shot on goal. The Blazers' lead held until the end of the second half, when the Cardinals' Nia Gomez tallied a goal in the 83rd minute to tie the score.

The teams went into overtime, where Ava Brown took a corner kick that Sara Madden headed into the goal for the game-winner in the 96th minute. 

Hood returns to play at Eastern Mennonite on September 6.
