FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College split a pair of matches, defeating Penn State-Mont Alto before falling to Ursinus. 

Hayley Rogers (Sandwich, Ill. / Brunswick (Md.)) had 14 total kills on the day, including a season-high 11 in the nightcap against the Bears.

The split gave Hood a 2-5 record on the season.

Hood 3, PSU-Mont Alto 0 

Ashley Park-Brouse (Myersville, Md. / Myersville) scored the winning point in each the second and third sets as the Blazers swept the Lions for their second victory of the year, 25-22, 26-24, 26-24.

Hood jumped out to a commanding lead in the first set before fighting off a comeback bid by Penn St.-Mont Alto. The Nittany Lions regrouped and battled Hood to identical 26-24 finals, with the Blazers finishing off the sweep. 

In the second set, Hood faced set point, 24-23, before rattling off three straight points for the win. Gabriela Enriquez (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) tied the score with a kill, and after an attack error put the Blazers ahead, Park-Brouse served up an ace for the win.

Late in the third set, the teams traded service errors to make the score 24-24. After an attack error, it was Park-Brouse again scoring set point with a kill to seal the set and the match. 

Addie Roop (New Windsor, Md. / Francis Scott Key) led Hood with seven kills and four aces for 11 points. Enriquez added a career-high six kills. Brenna Elizondo (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage) dished out 28 assists and served up three aces. Kelsey Ritner (Barnegat, N.J. / Barnegat) finished with 12 digs. 

Ursinus 3, Hood 0

Rogers had 11 kills on 22 attacks without an error, but Ursinus' Karla Thiele had 15 kills on 31 attacks to lead the Bears to a three-set win. 

Scores were 27-25, 25-16, 25-17.

The Blazers had set point, 24-22, in the opening set, but a kill by Thiele and two Hood attack errors put Ursinus ahead. Rogers tied the score with a kill of her own, but two straight points by Ursinus closed out the set.

The Bears took control early in both the second and third sets to put the match away. 

Rogers had 12.5 points for Hood, more than twice any other player on the team. Elizondo had a double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs. Keesha Fields (Willow Hill, Pa. / Fannett-Metal) added 10 digs.

In addition to the effort by Thiele, Taylor McCartney added 10 kills. Gina Powers had 29 assists and 13 digs. 

Earlier in the day, Ursinus defeated Penn St.-Mont Alto, 3-0. 

Hood travels to Arcadia on September 10.
