Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Rachel Wiley (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) had her seventh double-double of the year, but the Blazers fell to Albright, 68-60.
The senior had 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting and 14 rebounds. She added two steals and two blocks. Allie Appleby (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) had a season-high 14 points and was 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Rachel Kessler (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) added 10 points and Verkia Smith (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) had four assists.
The Lions led early, but and 11-4 run by the Blazers put Hood ahead 15-10 on a layup by Wiley midway through the period. Albright responded with a 12-4 run, to take a 22-19 lead with 5:01 to play.
Three straight layups from Wiley gave Hood a 27-26 lead with 1:30 remaining, but Albright held a 30-29 advantage at the half.
A 3-pointer from Appleby pulled the Blazers within one point, 35-34, with 13:39 in the game.
Hood broke through with a 7-2 run for a 49-48 lead off a jumper from Taylor McGaughey (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) with 7:04 on the clock.
After an 11-2 run put Albright ahead 59-51, the Blazers scored seven straight points to make it 59-58 after a Smith layup with two minutes to go.
The Blazers were forced to foul, and the Lions made 3-of-4 free throws in the final 20 seconds to ice the win.
Hood outrebounded Albright 45-44.
Shannon Thomas led the Lions with 22 points and was 3-of-5 from distance. Kelecia Harris had a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds, and added five blocks.
The Blazers continue Commonwealth Conference action at Messiah on January 21.
