FREDERICK,Md. - Hood College topped Misericordia University for the first time in school history in a 136-119 victory.
Lauren Fogarty (Arnold, Md. / Broadneck) and Ashley Griffin (Littlestown, Pa. / Delone Catholic) each had two individual wins and a relay victory. Brittany Whitham (Fort Collins, Colo. / Resurrection Christian), Shannon McHale (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) and Anne Lessard (Natick, Mass. / Natick) each had individual wins, while Lessard and Sydney Langer (Falls Church, Va. / Falls Church) swam on a winning relay.
The dual victory improved Hood to 8-3 on the season and 6-3 against Middle Atlantic Conference foes.
Fogarty claimed first place in the 200-yard freestyle and the 50 butterfly with times of 2:02.06, and 27.80, respectively. In the 400 free relay, she finished first at 3:49.72 along with teammates Griffin, Langer and Lessard. The junior also had a second place finish in the 100 fly, touching the wall at 1:01.71.
Griffin turned in a time of of 25.19 in the 50 free, placing first. The sophomore also claimed first in the 100 free, finishing at 55.58.
Whitham swam a time of 11:32.33 in the 1000 free for her first place finish. In the 500 free, she touched the wall at 5:38.06, good for second. She also placed third in the 200 free, with a time of 2:07.54.
McHale touched the wall at 1:03.38 in the 100 backstroke, placing first. She also finished third in the 100 fly at 1:05.87.
Lessard notched her win in the 200 back, turning in a time of 2:19.96. She finished with a time of 27.18 in the 50 free, good for third.
Caitlin Fay (Henrico, Va. / Mills E. Godwin) placed second in the 1000 free and Lindsay Cronin (Arlington, Va. / Washington & Lee) was behind her with times of 11:32.65 and 12:20.16, respectively. Fay also had a third place finishes in the 200 back (2:20.62) and the 500 free (5:40.05).
Shannon Welch (Henderson, Nev. / Las Vegas Academy of the Arts) had a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:18.69. She notched another second in the 200 breast (2:49.21), and a third place in the 200 individual medley (2:32.97).
Theresa Schwarzwalder (Columbia, Md. / Wilde Lake) finished the 200 IM in 2:25.86, placing second.
The Blazers remain at home for Senior Day against Lebanon Valley on January 31.
