Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Hood College fell 67-58 in a Commonwealth Conference matchup against Lycoming College.
Verkia Smith (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) led the Blazers with 13 points and six rebounds. Rachel Kessler (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) added 12 points and three steals, and Allie Appleby (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) had nine points. Rachel Wiley (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) had a team-high 10 rebounds and three assists.
Lycoming jumped ahead to an early 18-6 lead in the first half with 11:26 to play. The Blazers pulled within six points after two layups from Appleby and one from Wiley, for a 18-12 deficit with 9:59 on the clock. Smith sparked a 7-2 run to end the half, but the Warriors still led 32-23.
Hood outscored Lycoming over the final six minutes but the Warriors held on for the 67-58 victory.
Janelle Ziminski led the Warriors with 15 points and six steals. Olivia Manges and Chelsea Henderson had 12 points apiece. Nicole Calella had four assists and went 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
The Blazers bench outscored Lycoming's reserves 28-18. Hood made 44 percent of its field goals, its third best this season.
Hood hosts Alvernia for a conference game on February 7 at 1 p.m.
