FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College volleyball team erased a two-set deficit to pick a 3-2 win over visiting Goucher on Senior Night at BB&T Arena.

Set scores were 23-25, 14-25, 25-16, 25-18, 16-14.

Payton Belella (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) had 46 kills, 15 digs, three service aces and was 5-of-7 hitting without an error. Elena Young (Hagerstown, Md. / South Hagerstown) tallied 19 kills, two aces and three blocks. Kari Betson (Frederick, Md. / Frederick) notched 15 kills and Caroline Kinna (Walkersville, Md. / Walkersville) added 10 kills and 15 digs. 

Before the match, the Blazers honored seniors Brenna Elizondo (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage) and Kathryn Jones (Newfane, N.Y. / Newfane). The duo went on to combine for 37 digs, including 20 by Jones. 

Hood struggled to find its rhythm in the first two sets, but began to regroup in the third. Leading just 7-6, a kill and three straight aces by Belella put the Blazers ahead 11-6. After winning again in the fourth set to force a decisive fifth game, Hood fell behind 14-13. After a timeout, a pair of errors by the Gophers gave the Blazers a match point. Betson slammed an attack home for the come-from-behind win. 

Hannah Kuehl led Goucher with 12 kills and four blocks. Michelle Tweedie led the Gophers with five blocks and Paige Smith added four. Smith also tallied 25 digs. Sarah Johnson had 25 assists, three aces and 10 digs. 

The Blazers' 17 wins are the most since a 19-victory season in 2000. Hood tied its school record with 57 assists in the match.

Hood heads to Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth rival Alvernia on Thursday, October 29 at 7 p.m.
