Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - There was no shortage of offense as Hood and Arcadia combined for 58 runs over the course of their Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach.
Unfortunately for the Blazers, they were outslugged by the Knights in both ends of the twinbill. Arcadia captured game one by a final score of 27-13, then picked up the sweep with a 14-4 final in the nightcap.
ARCADIA 27, HOOD 13
Cameron Esposito (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) hit the first home run in school history, but a big first inning by the Knights proved too much to overcome.
The Blazers spotted Arcadia 10 runs in the first inning, but cut the deficit to 13-11 after the fourth. A six-run sixth by the Knights put the game out of reach.
Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) and Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) each had three hits and drove in three runs apiece. Michael Hernandez (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) had three hits, including a triple, and scored three times. John Cartagena (Brookfield, Conn. / Immaculate) and Chris Shriver (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson) both had two hits.
Justin Simpson homered among his three hits and knocked in five runs for Arcadia. Nick Todero went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four runs batted in. Michael Nessel and Andonis Yiantsos also had three-hit efforts.
Connor Travis picked up the win in relief for Arcadia. Ryan Atkinson (Hamburg, Pa. / Hamburg) took the loss for Hood.
ARCADIA 14, HOOD 4
Hood took a 4-2 lead into the fourth, but the Knights offense erupted for 12 runs over their final four at bats.
Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) and Gall had multi-hit games for Hood. Justin Cosing (Reston, Va. / South Lakes) had a bases clearing double in the second inning and drove in three runs. Zach Scheuerman (Abingdon, Md. / Patterson Mill) doubled.
Justin Chasmar had three hits for Arcadia. Jordan Draude recorded three RBIs.
Jason Goldberg allowed just one earned run in five innings to pick up the win. Andrew Catone (Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) took the loss for the Blazers.
Hood travels to Eastern Mennonite on March 18.
