FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College dropped a non-conference doubleheader to York (Pa.) 5-1 and 13-5.

Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) hit her first career home run in the second inning to pull Hood within one run, 2-1, but the Spartans tacked on three more runs to pull away.

That was all the offense Hood could muster against York's Courtney Martin. She limited the Blazers to just two hits and struck out six.

Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) pitched all seven innings to take the loss.

Katie Maloney had three hits in the game for the Spartans.

Hood scored four times in the third inning, but it was not enough to keep pace with a York squad that scored 11 runs in its first three at bats.

Kristen Scott (Rockville, Md. / Walter Johnson) doubled and scored in both the first and third innings to lead the Blazers. 

Scott notched another double in the third inning and scored again on Beth Laque's (Berlin, Md. / Stephen Decatur) double.

Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) and Kristy Erfurdt (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) had two-hit games in the loss.

Megan Martin went 4-for-4, while Carleigh Ruleman knocked in four runs. Savannah Zittle and Maloney had three hits apiece. 

Melissa Jurkiewicz picked up the win in relief.

Hood hosts Lycoming on March 22 for the first conference double header of the season.
