Box Score 2 STEVENSON, Md. - Hood College led in the sixth inning of the second game, but Stevenson came back to defeat the Blazers with a three-run frame in the bottom of the inning for a 7-6 win. The win completed the sweep for the Mustangs, as Hood fell 6-4 in the opener.
Tyler Cook (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) had a pair of two-hit days to lead the Blazers. Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) hit his first career home run in game two.
STEVENSON 6, HOOD 4
A late rally fell just short for the Blazers as Hood roughed up the Mustangs' bullpen in the seventh inning.
Trailing 6-0 heading into their last at bat, the Blazers pushed four runs across home plate. Chris Shriver (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson) led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. A single by Cook knocked in Hood's first run. Pinch hitter Drake Friend (Gladwyne, Pa. / Harriton) walked and a single by John Cartagena (Brookfield, Conn. / Immaculate) followed to load the bases with no one out. Warrenfeltz followed with an RBI single to cut it to 6-2. After a pitching change, Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) drew a bases loaded walk to chip the deficit to three. Cartagena scored on a ground out by Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) drove in the fourth run. Reid Foxwell, Stevenson's second pitcher of the inning, settled down and picked up a pair of strikeouts to close the door.
The Mustangs built their lead with a pair of RBI singles in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Troy Miller added a two-run single during a four-run fourth that put the game out of reach.
Shriver and Cook had two hits apiece for Hood. Warrenfeltz reached base three times via a hit and a pair of walks.
Ryan Atkinson (Hamburg, Pa. / Hamburg) started and took the loss, allowing four earned in 4.1 innings. He struck out two.
Alec Romanowski pitched 5.2 scoreless innings before a trio of relievers closed out the game. Romanowski scattered four hits and a walk, striking out seven.
HOOD 7, STEVENSON 6
Paul Quattrone (Laurel, Md. / Reservoir) ripped a two-run triple in the sixth to give Hood a 6-4 lead, but the Mustangs spoiled the Blazers' chances with a three-run inning in the bottom half.
Johnson walked with one out and Gall singled to put two runners on. After the second out, Quattrone nailed a pitch into center field to drive in both runners and break a 4-4 tie.
In the bottom of the inning, Tennant tied the game with a two-RBI single and then scored the game-winning run on a Hood error.
Johnson reached base four times in contest with two hits and two walks. Warrenfeltz went 2-for-3, homered, and walked. Gall and Cook also had two-hit games.
Gall drove in a run in the top of the first on an RBI ground out for a 1-0 lead.
Stevenson came back in the second with three runs that scored via a single, a sacrifice fly and a Hood error for a 3-1 lead.
The Blazers scored single runs in the next three innings to reclaim the lead. Warrenfeltz led off the third with an shot to right center for his first homer. In the fourth, Cartagena reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a single by Johnson to tie the game. Pinch hitter Daniel Patterson (Brunswick, Md. / Brunswick) singled and came home on an error for a 4-3 lead through four and a half innings of play.
A solo homer by Miller tied the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Reliever Michael Hernandez (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) took the loss for the Blazers. He allowed two runs, one earned, in one inning of work. Andrew Catone (Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) started and pitched five-plus innings. He surrendered four earned runs on five hits.
Trever Fitzsimmons came out of the bullpen to pick up the win, giving up two runs in 2.2 innings and striking out four. Starter Dan Williams gave up three earned in 4.1 innings on eight hits and four walks. He struck out five.
The two teams wrap up the season series on Monday, March 23 at 3:30 p.m. at Frederick Community College.
