Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College dropped a Commonwealth Conference contest to Stevenson, 5-4, in 11 innings.
Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) and Michael Hernandez (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) had two hits apiece for the Blazers.
Hood scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Hernandez that drove in Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring).
The lead did not last long, however, as the Mustangs scored twice in the second and twice in the third to take a 4-1 lead.
The Blazers trimmed the lead to 4-2 in their half of the third. John Cartagena (Brookfield, Conn. / Immaculate) and Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) led off with singles, and Cartegena later came home on an RBI groundout by Gall.
Three innings later, Hood tied the game with a two-run sixth. Gall doubled down the right field line with one out and scored on a two-base hit by Hernandez. Paul Quattrone's (Laurel, Md. / Reservoir) infield single gave the Blazers runners at the corners, and Daniel Patterson (Brunswick, Md. / Brunswick) knocked in Hernandez with a fielder's choice.
Reliever Travis Schweizer (Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield) entered in the seventh and after a pair of walks, got a double play grounder to escape the threat. From there, he tossed a 1-2-3 eighth and pitched around singles in the ninth and tenth innings. After a double in the 11th, Hernandez entered, but a two-out single by Nick Piefer scored a pinch runner for the winning run.
Cameron Fitzgerald (Bowie, Md. / DeMatha Catholic) got the start and allowed four runs in six innings. He struck out four and scattered six hits and two walks. Schweizer allowed three hits and two walks in 4.1 innings and fanned three Mustangs.
Brody Tennant, Kevin Kopas and Peifer had two-hit days for Stevenson.
Matt Myers gave up four runs in 6.1 innings. Reliever Reid Foxwell got the win in relief. He allowed just won hit over 4.2 innings of work.
The Blazers will host Commonwealth Conference rival Albright on March 27 at 3:30 p.m.
