FREDERICK, Md. - Three different Hood College players homered as the Blazers split a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Lycoming. 

Hood won the opener in eight innings, 7-6, but fell 11-5 in the nightcap.

Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal), Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) and Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) all homered for the Blazers. Kelsey Ritner (Barnegat, N.J. / Barnegat) had five hits in six at bats.

HOOD 7, LYCOMING 6

Kristen Scott (Rockville, Md. / Walter Johnson) singled home Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) in the eighth inning to lift the Blazers to a 7-6 win in the team's Commonwealth Conference opener. 

Ritner finished 3-for-3, doubled and scored twice. Kristy Erfurdt (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) went 3-for-4.

Dominique Thomas had RBI singles in both the second and third innings as Lycoming jumped ahead 5-0 after two and a half innings. 

Hood responded with a four-run bottom of the third to pull within a single run. The first of Ritner's three hits came on a double to lead off the inning. Despite the leadoff baserunner, the Blazers scored all four runs with two outs. Fourcade knocked in two runs with a single to cut the deficit to three. The next two runs came on an error. 

A two-run homer by Leaman gave Hood a 6-5 lead in the fourth. The long ball knocked in Ritner, who reached on an infield single earlier in the inning. 

Pitcher Rachael Shady tied the game with an RBI single in the fifth. 

Neither team scored again until Scott's walk off single in the eighth. Saglimbeni reached on an error to start the inning and moved to third when Ritner reached on an error. With runners on second and third, Scott singled to left to knock in the winning run. 

Beth Laque (Berlin, Md. / Stephen Decatur) picked up the complete game win. The freshman went eight innings, allowing just three earned runs. 

Kristi Weaver, Nikki Marianelli and Thomas had two hits apiece for Lycoming. Shady took the loss in relief, allowing a single run in three innings. 

LYCOMING 11, HOOD 5

A five-run first proved too much for Hood to overcome in an 11-5 loss.

Weaver stroked a two-run double in the first and Kelcie Crabb hit a three-run homer. 

The Blazers answered in the fourth when Leaman and Erfurdt led off the inning with singles. Fourcade followed with a three-run blast to put a dent in the Warriors' lead.

Lycoming pushed four runners across home in the fifth to break the game open.

A homer by Paugh in the sixth and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Efurdt in the seventh were not enough.

Ritner, Leaman and Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) all had two hits for the Blazers.

Leaman pitched the first 5.1 innings and took the loss.

Heather Secord had a three-hit game for the Warriors, while six other players had two hits each.

Caroline Lapano threw a complete game for the win.

Hood hosts Gettysburg on March 26.
