Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning, his second of the season, but Albright built an early lead and went on to win 7-3.
Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) had two hits and walked once for the Blazers. John Cartagena (Brookfield, Conn. / Immaculate) had a two-hit afternoon. Chris Shriver (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson) had a seventh inning double.
The Lions used the long ball take a 2-0 lead in the third. Dylan Boll turned on a pitch an hit it over the fence in right field. John Medvecky, who walked with one out, scored on the play.
Hood cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Cook (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove) pulled a ball through the hole into left field for a single. After Cartagena singled, a wild pitch but two runners in scoring position. Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) brought Cook home with an RBI groundout for the Blazers' first run.
A two-run double by Micah Storms in the fifth and a three-run sixth extended Albright's lead to 7-1.
Meanwhile, the Lions' Daniel Louviaux was able to keep Hood's offense at bay until the Blazers began to threaten late in the contest. In the eighth, Johnson singled to right center and then scored when Gall took a pitch deep down the right field line and over the foul pole for a home run.
After Paul Quattrone (Laurel, Md. / Reservoir) reached on an error in the ninth and moved to second on a wild pitch, Drake Friend (Gladwyne, Pa. / Harriton) singled to right center. Albright turned to Trey Eberly with one out, and after the reliever got the second out, he got the third when a rope by Cartegena was picked off by Gabe Santone before it could get down the line in right field.
Boll went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run. Nathan Fretz and Max Dundore had two hits each.
Louviaux pitched 8.1 innings and scattered eight hits and a walk. He allowed three earned runs and struck out five.
For Hood, Andrew Catone (Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) took the loss. He allowed six hits and five runs in five innings. The Blazers' third and fourth pitchers of the ballgame pitched scoreless innings. Blake Krisan (Mount Dora, Fla. / Mount Dora Bible) hurled a perfect eighth and sturck out one. Kole Hearn (Seaford, Del. / Sussex Tech) allowed a hit in the ninth.
Hood and the Lions will wrap up the season series with a doubleheader at Albright on Saturday, March 28 at noon.
