WASHINGTON, D.C. - Alexandra Dystant (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) and Heather Silveira (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) both won three events to lead Hood College to a second place finish at the Gallaudet Invitational.
The Blazers' 123 points were second only to Catholic's 142.
Dystant controlled the action in the distance events, winning the 800-meter run, the 1,500 and the 5,000. The senior ran the anchor leg on the second place 4x400-meter relay.
Silveira claimed wins in the both of the hurdle events and led the Blazers to a come-from-behind victory in the 4x100 relay. She was second in the triple jump and set a new personal best by over a foot.
Dystant ran a 2:30.35 to win the 800. She blew away the field by nearly 23 seconds in the 1,500 with her time of 5:19.11. In the 5,000, she registered a 20:19.80 to claim victory by 17 seconds.
Silveira had close to half a second on the pack in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 15.93. Her victory in the 400 hurdles was by a margin of over five seconds with a lap in 1:09.34. In the 4x100, Silveira's anchor leg led Hood to the win in 54.45. Jackie Mangogna (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park), Andrea Christmas (Germantown, Md. / Northwest) and Jill Heymann (Hackettstown, N.J. / Warren Hills) ran the first three legs.
Dystant and Silveira teamed with Mangogna and Christmas to take second in the 4x400 in 4:37.97.
Silveira had a distance of 33-6 3/4 (10.23m) in the triple jump to finish second.
Samantha Bailey (Shelton, Conn. / Shelton) threw the shot put 32-9 3/4 (10.00m), for a third place finish. The freshman added a second place finish in the discus in 85-10 (26.16m).
Verkia Smith (Waldorf, Md. / North Point) ran a time of 1:12.64 in the 400m, placing second.
