Box Score 2 CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Hood College softball team swept its non-conference doubleheader at Wilson, winning 14-8 and 7-0.
HOOD 14, WILSON 8
The two teams traded seven-run innings in the sixth, but Hood had three other mult-run innings in a 14-8 win in the opener.
Six different players had two-hit games for the Blazers. Kristy Erfudt (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) tripled among her two hits, while Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) and Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) both doubled.
Hood scored three runs in the top of the first. Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) knocked in Kristen Scott (Rockville, Md. / Walter Johnson) on a single, then scored on Paugh's double. Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) brought Paugh home on an RBI single.
Wilson cut into the lead in the third, when Raechelle Hilbish singled and later scored to make it 3-1.
Two more runs scored for Hood in the fifth. Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) led off the inning with a single and scored on Erfurdt's triple. Fourcade followed and hit a sacrifice fly to score Erfurdt for a 5-1 lead.
In Hood's seven-run sixth, Erfurdt, Sedgwick and Melissa Canulli (Hummelstown, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) all had RBI singles as the Blazers increased the lead to 12-1. Fourcade and Cady Baer (Frederick, Md. / Catoctin) drew bases loaded walks; and Paugh drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
Kari Lehman and Jennifer Patton both had two-run singles as the Phoenix attempted to keep pace in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the lead to 12-8.
Baer sealed the win in the top of the seventh with a single that scored Fourcade and Erfurdt.
Paugh threw a complete game, allowing just three earned runs in the game.
Taylor Crouse took the loss, surrendering four runs in four innings.
Lehman was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the losing effort.
HOOD 7, WILSON 0
Beth Laque (Berlin, Md. / Stephen Decatur) tossed a four-hit shutout and struck out six to lead the Blazers to the sweep.
Fourcade had three hits in the game, including an RBI double that drove in Hood's first run.
The junior's run scoring hit came as part of a five-run fourth inning. After she drove in Erfurdt for the game's first run, Fourcade scored on an error. Kelsey Ritner (Barnegat, N.J. / Barnegat) added a two-run double to extend the lead to 4-0. Saglimbeni knocked in Ritner with a single for the final run of the inning.
In the seventh, an RBI single by Erfurdt drove in a run, and Paugh picked up an RBI with a groundout that scored Baer for a 7-0 lead.
Laque, meanwhile, limited the Phoenix to just one hit in the first four innings en route to her first collegiate shutout.
Morgan Newell, who also had two hits in the game, took the loss for Wilson. She allowed five runs, one earned, in four innings.
Hood returns to conference play on Thursday, April 2, when Alvernia comes to town for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
