Blazers Travel to West Chester Classic

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College men's track and field team are set to compete at the West Chester Classic on April 10 and 11.

SCOUTING HOOD

Heather Silveira (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) is currently ranked first in the conference in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.91 which she set at the Bobcat Invitational on April 4. She also ranks first in the 400h with a time of 1:08.56. Silveira rates seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 33-6 3/4 (10.23m). Alexandra Dystant (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) ranks in the top six in the conference in the 800-meter. Samantha Bailey (Shelton, Conn. / Shelton) rates sixth in the conference in the discus with a throw of 100-9 (30.70m). She also places seventh in the shot put with a heave of 36-7 1/2 (11.16m). Jill Heymann (Hackettstown, N.J. / Warren Hills) ranks fifth in the conference in the 100h with a time of 17.03. Jackie Mangogna (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) ranks in the top seven in the conference in the long jump. She also ranks eighth in the 100h with a 17.46 time. Karina Stetsyuk (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson) is ranked 10th in the javelin with a mark of 86-5 (26.33m).

LAST TIME OUT

Dystant tied the school record for career event wins as the Blazers competed at the Bobcat Invitational. She ran a time of 2:27.06 in the 800-meter run, nine seconds faster than the next finisher, to notch her first win of the day. The senior had another win in the 1500m, crossing the finish line at 5:07.92. Silveira finished first in the 400h with a time of 68:56. She took second in the 100m hurdles at 15.91, and had a leap of 32-11 3/4 (10.05m) to place fourth in the triple jump. Bailey threw the shot put 34-9 3/4 (10.61m) to place second. She had a toss of 99-8 (30.39m) in the discus, good for third. The freshman also took fourth in the hammer with a throw of 90-0 (27.63m). Miranda Sly (New Market, Md. / Oakdale) picked up a fourth place in the 800m, crossing the line at 2:41.84. Mariah Purtee (Libertytown, Md. / Linganore) had a heave of 30-8 1/2 (9.36m) in the shot put, placing fourth. Stetsyuk also had a fourth place finish in the javelin with a throw of 86-05 (26.33m). Mangogna scored a sixth place finish in the long jump with her mark of 16-3 (4.95m). The freshman claimed eighth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.46. Heymann gave Hood three of the top eight finishers in the 100m hurdles. She was seventh in 17.25.

NEXT UP

Some Blazers will head to Mount Multis on April 16 and 17, the full squad will be back in action on April 18 for the Mason-Dixon Invitational.
