Box Score 2 MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Hood College fell twice against Messiah in a conference doubleheader, 10-1 and 3-2.
MESSIAH 10, HOOD 1 (5 INNINGS)
The Falcons scored five runs in the fifth inning to cut the game short for Hood, 10-1.
Amanda Jones had a triple for Messiah in the first inning to knock in two early runs. Nicole Blantz had a single to drive in the final run of the inning for a 3-0 lead.
The Falcons had two doubles in the third inning, and a single from Katie Tankred knocked in the two runners for a 5-0 lead into the fourth.
Messiah's five runs in the bottom of the fourth made for a 10-0 advantage into the fifth inning.
The Blazers scored their lone run of the game, when Alexa Rubano (Wallingford, Conn. / Lyman Hall) scored off a single from Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg).
Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) and Saglimbeni were both 2-for-2 on the day. Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) pitched the full game and took the loss.
The Falcons' Becky Notte was 2-for-2 at bat. Tankred had four RBIs and Jones added three. Claressa Mees pitched all five innings for the win.
MESSIAH 3, HOOD 2
The Blazers had an early 2-1 lead after the second inning, but two late runs from Messiah in the sixth made for a 3-2 loss.
Hood opened the second inning with a single from Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) and a walk from Cady Baer (Frederick, Md. / Catoctin). Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and a single from Kelsey Ritner (Barnegat, N.J. / Barnegat) knocked in Sedgwick. Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) had a double to drive in Baer for a 2-0 lead.
The Falcons had a single run in the bottom of the second for a 2-1 deficit.
The teams remained scoreless through the six inning, before a Hood error gave Messiah two unearned runs for the 3-2 victory.
Ritner and Leaman eached notched an RBI for the Blazers. Leaman pitched the full six innings and struck out two, but took the loss.
Messiah's Jones went 3-for-3 at bat. Courtney Allen pitched 6.2 innings with five strikeouts to take the win.
Hood hosts Widener on Sunday, April 12 for a conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
