WEST CHESTER, Pa. - Hood College's Heather Silveira (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) finished second to a pair of Division II athletes in the hurdle events as the Blazers competed at the Bill Butler Collegiate Invitational hosted by West Chester University.
Silveira ran a 16.09 in the 100-meter hurdles and a 1:07.66 in the 400 hurdles. In both cases, she was second to a competitors from West Chester. Her time in the 400 hurdles was just a tenth of a second off the school record.
Alexandra Dystant (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) had a second place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 5:01.75, just over a second behind Scranton's Patricia Hoffman (5:00.19). Dystant was fifth in the 800 in 2:25.25.
Samantha Bailey (Shelton, Conn. / Shelton) placed fourth in the shot put. The freshman's best throw travelled 34-7 3/4 (10.56m). She was second among Division III participants in the event.
The jumps saw Jackie Mangogna (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) with a pair of top eight finishes. Her mark of 16-2 1/4 (4.93m) was seventh in the long jump. The freshman high jumped 4-6 1/4 (1.38m) to tie for eighth in that event. She was third among Division III student-athletes in the long jump and tied for second in the high jump.
No team scores were tracked.
Hood's multi-event athletes will be in action at the Mount Multis on April 16-17. The full squad competes at the Mason-Dixon Invitational at Gettysburg College on April 18.
