Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md. -The Hood College baseball team proved to be too much for Central Penn. The Blazers won both games in there doubleheader against the Knights of Central Penn. The Blazers won 14-1 in the opener and 2-1 in the second game.
Cameron Esposito (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) and John Cartagena (Brookfield, Conn. / Immaculate) both had three hits in game one. In game two, pitcher Kole Hearn (Seaford, Del. / Sussex Tech) finished the game with 11 strikeouts.
Hood 14, Central Penn 1
The Blazers opened up game one with three runs in the first inning, followed by two runs in the second inning, and nine runs in the fourth inning.
Esposito, Cartagena, and Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) each had three RBIs brining in nine of the fourteen runs for Hood. Drake Friend (Gladwyne, Pa. / Harriton), Sean Counterman (Manchester, Md. / Manchester Valley) and Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) also added two hits apiece for the Blazers.
The Knights had three hits against pitcher Jake Franke (Lisbon, Md. / Glenelg) driving in one run in the third inning off of Miguel Arredondo's RBI.
Franke only gave up three hits, and one run while striking out five batters to get the win for Hood.
The starting pitcher for the Knights, Matt Glass pitched 3.2 innings and had two strikeouts but will take the loss for Central Penn. Ryan Strevig made a pitching appearance and completed .1 innings on the mound.
Hood 2, Central Penn 1
Central Penn struck first scoring in the top of the first. Andrew Clarke had the sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring in teammate Ryan Strevig.
Nat Puryear (Frederick, Md. / Tuscarora) hit a double to centerfield in the bottom of the fifth and his pinch runner Drake Friend was later brought in with Esposito's RBI. Esposito's RBI tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth.
Hearn threw a complete game on the mound with 11 strikeouts, no walks, and only gave up five hits.
In the bottom of the seventh Esposito walked and stole second before teammate Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) reached on an error, allowing Esposito to score. Hood finished the game with a 2-1 win over Central Penn.
Hearn earns the win for Hood College.
Arredondo completed five innings for the Knights allowing three hits and one run. Brandon Casiano made a pitching appearance and completed one inning on the mound. Arrendondo took the loss for the Knights.
