Long Ball Can't Solve Stevenson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College's Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) homered twice, including a grand slam, to power a game two comeback bid against Stevenson, but the Blazers dropped both games 4-1 and 12-8.

The Blazers tied the school record with four home runs in the nightcap. Paugh's two homer contest was just the third in school history. Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) hit one of the four homers in game two, stretching her Hood College career mark to 12.

STEVENSON 4, HOOD 1

Two unearned runs in the top of the second led Stevenson to an early 2-0 lead.

The Mustangs extended their lead in the third inning when Jasmyn Ogletree singled to knock in a run and Emily Soller drove in another run, making it 4-0.

Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the sixth to get on base for Hood. The freshman advanced on a walk, then made it to third off a wild pitch. A late single from Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) knocked in Leaman for Hood's lone run.

Fourcade went 1-for-2 and notched a double. Paugh struck out two hitters in the seven innings, but took the loss.

Ogletree led Stevenson with three hits in three at bats. She also pitched 5.2 innings, with six strikeouts for the win. Kaitlyn Seger and Laura Welch went 2-for-3.

STEVENSON 12, HOOD 8

Hood's record matching power fueled a comeback bid in the nightcap.

The Blazers tied the score 8-8 in the bottom of the fourth, but late runs by the Mustangs proved too much in the 12-8 loss.

Two three-run homers by Molly Hoty and Seger pulled the Mustangs ahead, 6-0, in the top of the second.

Seger doubled in the top of the fourth to notch her fifth RBI of the game, giving Stevenson an 8-0 advantage.

Paugh hit her grand slam to knock in Kelsey Ritner (Barnegat, N.J. / Barnegat), Sedgwick and Fourcade to cut the lead in half, 8-4 in the bottom of the fourth.

Three Blazer home runs in the bottom of the fifth, knocked in four more runners to tie the score 8-8. Fourcade's homer knocked in Erfurdt, and Sedgwick and Paugh each added a home run.

Three runs from the Mustangs in the top of the sixth and a single run in the seventh clinched the 12-8 win.

Paugh led the Blazers with five RBIs and went 2-for-4 at bat. Cady Baer (Frederick, Md. / Catoctin) went 2-for-3 at bat with two RBIs.  Leaman pitched 3.2 innings to take the loss.

Seger was 4-for-5 in the game. Hoyt went 3-of-4 at bat with four RBIs. Brooke Steinbach had four strikeouts and pitched 5.2 innings to take the win.

Hood travels to Arcadia on April 19 for conference play.
