FREDERICK, Md. - Widener jumped out to an early lead and knocked off Hood College 5-2 in Commonwealth Conference action. 

Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the second, Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) took the first pitch he saw and hit it off the third tier of billboards in right field for his team-leading fourth homer of the year. He finished the game 2-for-4. 

The Blazers' other run came in the bottom of the ninth, when Chris Shriver (Frederick, Md. / Gov. Thomas Johnson) singled and scored. 

Four of the Pride's first six batters walked to knock in the first run of the game and Nicholas Enos homered to left in the top of the second for a 2-0 lead. 

After Gall's homer, the score remained 2-1 until a Hood error opened the door to a two-run fourth for Widener. The next inning, Enos had an infield single, with a throwing error on the play that allowed the fifth run to cross home. 

Travis Schweizer (Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield) overcame a rocky first inning for a solid start. He allowed just two earned runs in seven innings, pitching around eight hits and five walks. Jackson Slotterback (Arnold, Md. / St. Mary's) pitched two scoreless innings of relief. 

Cameron Esposito (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) doubled and walked in the game. Drake Friend (Gladwyne, Pa. / Harriton) walked twice. 

Enos had three hits to lead Widener. John Petrongolo, Greg McDonough and Bob Barnett had two hits apiece. 

Joe Santone started and went seven innings for the win. He allowed just four hits, but walked five. 

The two teams wrap up the season series on Saturday, April 18 in Chester, Pa.
