Box Score 2 GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Hood College softball team doubled eight times during a doubleheader split at Arcadia. Hood took the opener 3-2, but fell 4-2 in the second game.
HOOD 3, ARCADIA 2
After scoring once in the second inning, Hood used a two-run fourth to hold off Arcadia in the opener.
Kristy Erfurdt (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) had two of the Blazers' five doubles in the contest. Jess Sedgwick (Fairfield, Conn. / Cushing Academy) went 3-for-3 with a double.
Hood scored its second inning run when Kelsey Ritner (Barnegat, N.J. / Barnegat) came home on a sacrifice fly by Melissa Canulli (Hummelstown, Pa. / Central Dauphin East). Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) helped her own cause with an RBI single in the fourth and Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) had a run scoring hit in the frame to make it 3-0.
The Knights scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Paugh picked up the complete game win, scattering 11 hits and two walks over seven innings.
Emily Wilson took the complete game loss. She also allowed 11 hits and struck out six.
Amanda Hess had three hits for Arcadia.
ARCADIA 4, HOOD 2
Both teams did all of their scoring in the sixth inning, with Arcadia salvaging the split.
Hood got ground-rule doubles from Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) and Paugh in the top of the sixth for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, an error with one out allowed the first Knights' run to score, and Arcadia scored three more, including a two-run double by Nicole Iasiello, to secure the win.
Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) threw a complete game and did not allow an earned run, but took the loss. She allowed just five hits and three walks, striking out four.
Laura Christine was the winning pitcher, allowing just two runs on seven hits in the game.
Hood travels to Lebanon Valley on April 25.
