Box Score 2 FREDERICK, Md. - Hood College split its Commonweath Conferene double header with Alvernia.
Game one went nine innings, with the Crusaders picking up a 6-4 win. The Blazers picked up the split with a 5-3 win.
Kristy Erfurdt (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) had five hits in nine at bats. Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) had three RBIs in the second game and went 2-for-3 at bat.
ALVERNIA 6, HOOD 4 (9 innings)
A ninth inning home run by Brianna DePriest helped lead Alvernia to a 6-4 win in nine innings.
Melissa Canulli (Hummelstown, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) went 3-of-4 including a double. Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) doubled twice, while Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) and Erfurdt had two hits apiece.
The Blazers trailed 2-0, before Sedgwick notched an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to put Hood on the board. Erfurdt drove in a run to tie the teams at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth.
After the Crusaders score a run in the top of the sixth, the Blazers took the lead, 4-3, in the bottom of the sixth. Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) scored off a Canulli single to tie the game, and Saglimbeni drove in Sedgwick with a double.
DePreist singled and scored for Alvernia to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
Paugh threw a complete game, but took the loss, striking out two batters.
Brianna Fisher got the win in relief, throwing three innings of two-hit ball. DePriest had three hits and scored three runs. Aly Shilling had three hits and drove in two.
HOOD 5, ALVERNIA 3
Fourcade drove in three runs and Leaman threw a complete game as Hood salvaged the split, 5-3, in game two.
Erfurdt had three hits in four at bats. Fourcade and Sedgwick each had two hits and walk, while Canulli had a double among her two hits.
DePriest led off the game with a homer to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead.
Leaman singled and scored on a base hit by Fourcade in the bottom of the first to even the score 1-1.
Fourcade knocked in two more runs in the second inning with a single up the middle, scoring Leaman and Kelsey Ritner (Barnegat, N.J. / Barnegat), 3-1.
Alvernia added a run in the fourth, but Hood scored in the fifth and sixth innings for a 5-2 lead. Canulli doubled in the fifth and came home on a single by Saglimbeni. In the sixth, Sedgwick drove in Erfurdt with two outs.
DePriest added her third home run of the day in the seventh inning.
DePriest was a perfect 4-for-4 and homered twice. Taylor Thomas added an RBI and two hits.
Leaman scattered 11 hits to pick up the complete game win.
Katy Lutz took the loss in relief. She allowed three runs in 3.2 innings.
Hood hosts Stevenson on April 8.
