Box Score 2 READING, Pa. - The Hood College baseball dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Commonwealth Conference foe Alvernia. The Blazers fell 6-0 in the opener and 9-1 in the second game.
ALVERNIA 6, HOOD 0
A three-run first inning proved too much to overcome in a 6-0 loss in game one.
Ben Sawyer drove in a run with an RBI single, then scored on Zach Nadolny's two-run base hit later in the frame.
The Crusaders added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to put the game out of reach.
Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) returned to the lineup and went 1-for-3 with a walk. Drake Friend (Gladwyne, Pa. / Harriton) walked twice.
Sawyer had a solo homer in the sixth to finish 2-for-2 with a pair of walks.
Dillon Dunne tossed 4.2 scoreless innings for the win.
Ryan Atkinson (Hamburg, Pa. / Hamburg) took the loss. After the three-run first, he settled down and allowed just one more run over the next three innings.
ALVERNIA 9, HOOD 1
Cameron Esposito (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) singled, stole second and scored on a first inning single by Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel), but that proved to be Hood's only offense in a 9-1 loss.
Sawyer homered in the bottom of the inning and Alvernia. In the third, the Crusaders scored four runs to break the game open.
Gall was 1-for-2 with a walk in the game. Warrenfeltz doubled and Paul Quattrone (Laurel, Md. / Reservoir) drew two bases on balls.
Joe IacoBellis scored three times for the Crusaders. Chris Burns doubled and went 3-for-4. Cameron Coons droved in three runners and doubled.
Andrew Catone (Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) took the loss.
Jared Degler picked up the win in relief.
Hood hosts Mount Aloysius in a single non-conference game on Wednesday, April 8.
