GRANTHAM, Pa. - Heather Silveira (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) finished first in the preliminaries of the 100-meter hurdles, then set a school record in the 400 hurdle prelims to highlight Hood's second day at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.
Freshmen Jackie Mangogna (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) and Samantha Bailey (Shelton, Conn. / Shelton) earned All-MAC Second Team honors during the day.
Mangogna took fifth in the heptathlon with 3,320 points. Her highest scoring event was the high jump with 577 points off a height of 4-9 1/2 (1.46m). In the 100-meter hurdles, she ran a 17.19 to score 575 points.
Bailey threw the shot put 35-2 1/2 (10.73m) to finish sixth.
A senior, Silveira ran a 16.15 for the fastest time in the 100 hurdles. In the 400 hurdles, she finished fourth, but turned in a time of 1:06.98 to set a new school record.
She will run in the finals for both events on Saturday, May 2.
Joining her in the finals of the 100 hurdles will be Jill Heymann (Hackettstown, N.J. / Warren Hills). The sophomore turned in a time of 16.82 to take seventh in the prelims.
