SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Hood College's Heather Silveira (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles at the ECAC Championships at Springfield College.
The senior entered the meet fresh off of her record-setting 15.49 at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships two weeks earlier. Silveira managed to better that time with a 15.42 in the preliminaries of the event at the ECAC Championships. She finished 19th in the prelims.
Also in action for the Blazers on the first day of action was Jackie Mangogna (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) in the heptathlon, who scored 2,076 points over the first four events. The freshman opened the multi-event with a personal best time of 16.90 in the 100m hurdles for 608 points. She scored 559 points with a 200-meter time of 28.94. In the shot put, her throw of 22-3 (6.78m) was worth 321 points. Her height in the high jump was 4-9 3/4 (1.47m) and scored 588 points.
Mangogna will wrap up the heptathlon on Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m. with the long jump, followed by the javelin and 800.
Silveira runs in the 400 hurdles on Friday at 2:45 p.m.
