GRANTHAM, Pa. - Hood College's Heather Silveira (Baltimore, Md. / Chesapeake) won the 100-meter hurdles and set school records in both hurdle events to lead the Blazers at the 2015 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.
Silveira broke her own school records in both events. She ran a 15.49 to win the 100-meter hurdles. The time cut a quarter of second off the mark she set just two weeks earlier. In the 400 hurdles, she finished fourth, but set a school record with a time of 1:05.73. It was the second time in as many days that Silveira set the Hood record in the 400 hurdles. After running a record 1:06.98 in the preliminaries on Friday, the senior was over a second faster in the finals.
Both times qualified Silveira for the ECAC Division III Championships later this month.
Silveira also scored a point for the Blazers in the triple jump with a hop, skip and jump of 33-4 3/4 (10.18m) to place eighth.
Jill Heymann (Hackettstown, N.J. / Warren Hills) joined Silveira in the finals of the 100 hurdles and placed seventh in 16.60.
Hood finished ninth with 25 points. Misericordia was the team champion with 205 points.
The Blazers earned a total of four all-conference honors and three school records were set. In addition to Silveira's accolades in the hurdles, Samantha Bailey (Shelton, Conn. / Shelton) and Jackie Mangogna (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) earned All-MAC Second Team on day two of the championships.
