Box Score

FREDERICK, Md. - Despite a huge night from freshman Payton Belella (Smithsburg, Md. / Smithsburg) and sophomore Kari Betson (Frederick, Md. / Frederick), the Hood College volleyball team lost in five sets against Arcadia, 3-2. The sets were 25-23, 15-25, 17-25, 25-22, and 15-13.

Belella set the Hood College freshman record for assists with 44 in the contest. That total put her in a tie for second in Hood's all-time record book, tying Robin Deniker, who dished out the same number in a match in 2000. Belella also had 26 digs and five kills in the game.

Betson had 22 kills in the contest, which ties her for fourth place in Hood's all time record book. The last person to have 22 kills in a game was Ashley Bryan, who had 22 kills in October 2007.

The Blazers were down early in the first set 4-0, but quickly made the set 8-6 in their favor. The teams went back and forth until the score was 21 all, when the Knights pulled away to take the set 25-23.

Hood opened the second set with a commanding 20-6 run, eventually winning the set 25-15. After the Blazers tied the contest, they opened the third set point-for- point with the Knights to the score of 10 all. Hood then went on a 10-2 run to clinch the third set 25-17.

Hood was up 2-1 after three sets, but an 8-0 open to the fourth set by the Knights quickly changed the momentum of the match. Hood battled back to make the set 17 all, but the Knights eventually took the set 25-22, forcing a decisive fifth set.

The decisive set opened tied at 5-5, after Arcadia scored three points, the Blazers battled back to tie the set at 9-9, and again at 12-12. The Knights then scored three points, and eventually sealed the set 15-13.

Arcadia was led by Alexia Bell, who tallied 25 assists and nine digs for the Knights. Elizabeth Joseph led the way for the Knights offensively with 12 kills.
