Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. - The Hood College softball team dropped games to William Peace and Washington (Md.) to wrap up play at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic.
The Blazers fell to the Pacers 5-1 and to the Shorewomen 6-3.
Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) drove in all four runs on the day for Hood.
GAME ONE
The Blazers could not stop William Peace's Brittany Popri, who went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in.
A pair of errors opened the door for a two-run first inning for the Pacers. Hood cut the deficit in half in the top of second with an RBI ground out by Paugh. Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery), who singled to lead off the inning, scored on the play.
Popri drove in three more runs over the course of the contest to put the game out of reach.
Beth Laque (Berlin, Md. / Stephen Decatur) started and took the loss for Hood. She threw a complete game with six innings of work, allowing five runs, four earned.
Kelsey Durham kept the Blazers' offense off-balance, tossing a five-hit shutout. She struck out four and did not walk a batter.
GAME TWO
A pair of three-run innings by Washington proved too much to overcome.
Paugh went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Kaylee Krietz (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) walked twice.
Hood went ahead 1-0 in the third when Paugh singled home Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal).
The Shorewomen answered back with six runs over the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead.
A two-run homer by Paugh pulled Hood within 6-3, but the Blazers could not get any closer.
Paugh pitched a complete game and took the loss. She struck out seven in seven innings, but allowed six earned runs on 10 hits.
Reliever Taylor Harcum was the winning pitcher. She allowed two unearned runs in four innings and struck out three. Maddie Bennett started and went three innings.
Paige Briganti had three hits and a walk. Bennett had two hits and drove in a pair. Harcum drove in two runs.
Hood travels to Stevenson on March 5.
