Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College baseball team dropped its Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth opener to visiting Arcadia, 6-3.
Brooks Warrenfeltz (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) had four hits. Cam Esposito (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) and Quinn Fulton (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) recorded three-hit days.
An RBI-groundout by Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) in the first scored Esposito for a 1-0 lead. After Knights tied it up in the fourth inning, the Blazers scored twice in the fifth for a 3-1 edge. Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Fulton had an RBI single in the inning.
A two-out error in the seventh allowed Arcadia back into the ballgame, scoring two runs to tie the game. The next batter, Michael Nessel, hit a two-run homer to give the Knights a 5-3 lead. Jordan Draude led off the eighth with a solo home run that put the game out of reach.
Travis Schweizer (Chesapeake, Va. / Grassfield) pitched 6.2 innings, but took the loss. He allowed seven hits and struck out five. None of the five runs he allowed were earned. Nate Luscombe (Harleysville, Pa. / Souderton) surrendered one run over the final 2.1 innings.
Reliever Joseph Warren was the winning pitcher, tossing the final 2.1 innings and striking out three. He and two other pitchers overcame 14 hits by Hood by striking out 13 batters.
Draude was 3-for-4 and Bryan Gillen had two hits.
The two teams wrap up the three-game series on Saturday, Mar. 19 at Arcadia.
