Softball Splits with Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Hood College used an eight-run third inning to win the opener 11-6, but Gettysburg picked up the split with a walk-off win in the second game.

HOOD 11, GETTYSBURG 6

Roo Saglimbeni (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) and Shelby Alcorn (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) had three hits apiece to lead the Blazers to the win.

Saglimbeni drove in three.

The two teams combined for 10 errors in the game, with both teams taking full advantage of the miscues.

After scoring a run on an error in the first inning, Hood scored eight times in the third to break the game open. Saglimbeni drove in the first run with a single and another scored on an error on the play for a 3-0 lead. Alcorn's RBI double drove in Saglimbeni to make it 4-0. After Kristen Scott (Rockville, Md. / Walter Johnson) had a run scoring single for a five-run lead, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch brought home four more runs. 

Mykaela Twitchell had an RBI double to get Gettysburg within 9-1. The Bullets cut it to 9-2 before Twitchell homered in the fifth to make the score 9-3. Gettysburg pulled within 9-6, but Saglimbeni capped the scoring with a two-run triple in the seventh.

Kayli Paugh (Elkridge, Md. / Howard) pitched a complete game for the victory.

Meghan Hisgen and Twitchell had two hits each for the Bullets. Sam Misurell drove in three. Aileen Reilly took the complete game loss. 

GETTYSBURG 7, HOOD 6

Gettysburg came from behind for the walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh.

Kaylee Krietz (Thurmont, Md. / Catoctin) went 3-for-3 with a walk, a double and scored twice. Paugh hit her sixth homer of the year, had two hits and drove in a pair. Ashley Fourcade (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) finished 2-for-4. 

Krietz doubled to lead off the game and scored on a single by Erfurdt. Paugh followed with a two-run homer. An error brought home a run for a 4-0 lead for the Blazers. 

Gettysburg answered with two runs in the bottom of the first, but Krietz drove in a run in the third to make it 5-2. Saglimbeni stretched the lead to four runs with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

An error in the bottom of the sixth helped fuel a four-run, game-tying rally for the Bullets. In the seventh, Gettysburg loaded the bases and Jamie Abell drove in Meredith Taylor with a single for the win.

Taylor had three hits in the game. Abell and Sara Braungard each finished with two hits. 

Morgan Clauser had a complete game win. Sophia Leaman (Mount Joy, Pa. / Donegal) went the distance, but took the loss. 

Hood, 11-7 on the season, hosts Albright on Apr. 2.
