Box Score WESTMINSTER, Md. - Hood College took a two-run lead early on No. 24 McDaniel, but the Green Terror used its high powered offense to pick up a 14-5 victory.
Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run batted in. Cam Esposito (Columbia, N.J. / North Warren Regional) finished 3-for-6 with a double and a stolen base. Nathan Kessler (Gaithersburg, Md. / Quince Orchard) came off the bench to go 2-for-3 with his first career home run. Drake Friend (Gladwyne, Pa. / Harriton) had two hits, including a double.
While McDaniel starting pitcher Marty Windisch, who entered the game with an earned run average of 0.89, was not as untouchable as usual, he made up for it at the plate with a 4-for-4 day. He tripled, stole a base and scored three times.
Hood took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Esposito doubled to lead off the game and scored on a double by Gall. Gall later scored on a single by Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring).
Windish's triple drove in a run in the bottom of the first, and he scored the tying run on a ground out later in the inning. Tim O'Shea homered in the bottom of the second for a 3-2 McDaniel lead.
Kessler hit his homer in the seventh with a shot to left field.
Windisch struck out 11 in six innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and three walks. He improved to 6-0.
For Hood, freshman Riley Fitzgerald (Eden, Vt. / Lamoille Union) drew the tough starting assignment against a McDaniel offense averaging over 10 runs per game. He gave up five runs in 2.2 innings, struck out two and did not walk a batter.
For the Green Terror, Sean Sivo went 3-for-5 and scored three times. O'Shea and Nick Valori also had three-hit games.
Hood will look to get back into the win column against Albright on Apr. 1.
